Gamesys opens Canadian office as poker launch nears

Gamesys is developing its first online poker product and has opened a Canada-based subsidiary to aid the launch.

Located in Edmonton in the province of Alberta, Gamesys Canada is currently recruiting individuals to work on its “revolutionary” Java-based online poker platform which it says is “nearing completion”.

The UK operator is thought to be developing a free-to-play social product to be launched alongside a real-money variant under its Virgin Games brand.

The operator acquired Virgin Games for an undisclosed sum in January this year and quickly removed all content from the likes of Microgaming, Net Entertainment, Cryptologic and Playtech, leaving 24 games provided by IGT as well as 24 of Gamesys’ proprietary titles.

The Virgin Poker offering, previously powered by Boss Media software, was removed following the purchase, while bingo was migrated from Playtech’s Virtue Fusion network to Gamesys’ proprietary offering.

A source told eGR the brand would be used to operate a poker product, but added that delays in the launch had led to the product being temporarily removed from the site.

Gamesys has posted job adverts recruiting individuals with “an interest in online gaming, especially poker”, capable of demonstrating “proven experience of leading poker development projects on a global scale aimed at the European … [and] American markets”.

Currently Gamesys is hiring a poker product manager and Java development team lead to bolster its newly-formed poker team.

The operator’s job adverts have specified the company is looking for those with experience of developing a variety of poker games, including token-based games as well as on “play for free/real money platforms”.
