Marshalls Aid the Environment with TISS Impregnable

Marshalls of Butterwick, the Lincolnshire based supplier of fresh produce to Sainsburys, Waitrose and Marks and Spencers, have fitted their fleet with TISS Security Systems’ “Impregnable” anti-siphon. The device was fitted due to its unique ability to prevent diesel spills.
Transport Manager, Jim Thackray, explains: “with re-fuelling facilities on site, we have a constant stream of Trucks filling up their fuel tanks. Consequently, there is a possibility that diesel spills could occur”.
This potential problem is exacerbated by a nearby water source. Only this month, a leading industry magazine reported that a haulier incurred a £1,893 fine having being found guilty of polluting a local river after a Driver overfilled their truck. Mr Thackray commented: “we are renowned for our efforts to protect the environment and are always extremely interested in any product or service that helps maintain our high standards”.
Due to the “Impregnable’s” unique float-valve, which locks off once the tank is full, it is impossible to overfill the tank, thereby alleviating the risk of precipitating a spillage. Because the float-valve is completely unique, the “Impregnable” is the only anti-siphon available that has anti-spill qualities.
Since fitting the device, Mr Thackray has realised that diesel spills are not just limited to the yard or filling stations: “with a full tank and badly fitted cap, it is feasible for fuel to leak out at anytime, potentially causing a hazardous diesel spill on the road”.
Mr Thackray’s observation is supported by the British Motorcycle Federation. They awarded Sainsburys the 2006 “Kill Spills” award due to their decision to fit the “Impregnable” to their fleet of vehicles. The annual award is presented to the company that has been most proactive in preventing diesel spills.
TISS Sales Director, Ryan Wholey, was pleased with Marshall’s decision to fit the fleet: “Although the “Impregnable’s” main intention is to stop siphoning, we always knew that its unique ability to prevent diesel spills would appeal to hauliers. Not only do spills have huge environmental and safety repercussions, but preventing them will also provide hauliers with significant savings on their fuel bills”.
