Sainsburys and TISS continue TankSafe Partnership

As 2011 begins, Sainsbury’s and TISS Security System’s partnership is entering its 7th year stronger than ever.
The longevity and strength of the relationship is attributed to both parties’ strong working relationship which has seen them collaborate on a number of projects to support the delivery of some of Sainsbury’s Logistics Division’s Environmental and Health and Safety targets.
The most recent collaborative project involving both parties resulted in modifications being made to the TankSafe ‘Impregnable’ Fuel Security Device to ensure diesel spills cannot occur if a Truck overturns.
Sainsbury’s began fitting the original TankSafe ‘Impregnable’ device in 2006. The unique device was successful at preventing diesel spills in the Trucks’ normal operations, however, in the unfortunate circumstances of a Truck overturning and the Fuel Cap being lost, it would be unable to prevent spills.
Consequently, TISS and members of Sainsbury’s Engineering team developed an ‘Anti-Spill Roll Mechanism’ which incorporates a secure Stainless Steel Sealing flap which is guaranteed to withstand over 30,000 insertions.
The ‘Anti-Spill Roll Mechanism’ can be supplied at newbuild or retro-fitted to TankSafe Devices already in operation and has now been specified by Sainsbury’s on all their TankSafe requirements for newbuild Tractor Units and Refrigerated Trailers since 2010.
Sainsbury’s Logistics Operations Support Manager, Gary King, commented: “I have been delighted with the performance of TISS’ TankSafe Devices and they have played a key part in helping us reach some of our environmental targets, reduce our fuel bills and most importantly helped improved road safety. I am keen to raise the awareness of the environmental and safety benefits of the TankSafe ‘Impregnable’ device as it is something that could benefit the entire industry if adopted more widely”.
